Lambton County Library is hoping patrons will share what they love about their local branch as they celebrate Ontario Public Library Week.
The annual event will be observed from October 20 to October 26.
Manager of Library Services Darlene Coke said this year's theme is “I Love My Library”, so they're asking patrons to submit testimonials by visiting a library, by posting on social media, or via email.
Coke said libraries have evolved over the years and go beyond providing "just books."
"These days, we offer the opportunity for people to borrow projectors from us, or various sports kits like pickleball paddles or tennis kits, we have telescopes, radon detectors," she said. "All sort of things that may not immediately come to mind when you think of a traditional library."
A few special events will be held as part of Ontario Public Library Week.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Florence Library from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 23. The branch now has expanded hours and services after the Shetland library closed its doors on August 29.
Also on October 23, the Sarnia Library Theatre will host an evening with Canadian Explorer and Author Adam Shoalts. He will discuss his new book, Vanished Beyond the Map: The Mystery of Lost Explorer Hubert Darrell, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Those interested in attending the presentation can register online.
Throughout the week, some Lambton County councillors will also stop by children’s storytimes to read a book.
Coke said there will incentives for residents to visit their local branch during Ontario Public Library Week.
Magnetic “I Love Lambton County Library” bookmarks will be available on a first come first serve basis.
