A London man is facing drug trafficking charges after Sarnia police seized about $50,000 worth of cocaine and oxycodone.
The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) said an officer on general patrol around Exmouth Street and Indian Road saw a suspicious vehicle near the gas station on Thursday at 8:50 p.m.
Police said the officer witnessed what was believed to be a drug transaction.
A traffic stop was later initiated on London Road, where additional officers and the Canine Unit were called in to help.
It's alleged the driver had cannabis products in plain sight inside the vehicle, which led to a search.
The vehicle also allegedly contained a small quantity of cocaine near the driver’s seat, a brick-style package of suspected cocaine, and other evidence of drug trafficking.
In total, officers seized approximately 420 grams of cocaine, seven oxycodone pills, and $730 in cash.
The 23-year-old driver was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, possession of a Schedule I Substance – opioid, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
"Astute observations made during general patrol, coupled with a thorough street-side investigation, resulted in this substantial seizure and drug trafficking charges," said SPS Chief Derek Davis in a media release. "Excellent work by the involved officers in this traffic stop."
The accused was released by the court with conditions.
