The Village of Point Edward has announced the retirement of Fire Chief Doug MacKenzie after 45 years of service.
"I would like to thank the Point Edward Fire Department for all their hard work and support over my years of involvement. We have faced many challenges as a team, and I have always appreciated how we come together to solve these problems," said Chief MacKenzie in a news release. "I wish the village and the department all the best going forward, and my greatest hope is that the department continues to function in the safe and efficient manner that it has over the years."
On behalf of the council and residents of the village, Mayor Bev Hand wished Chief MacKenzie a long and relaxing retirement.
“Doug MacKenzie has devoted 45 years to protecting and serving our community. His leadership, commitment, and compassion have shaped Point Edward Fire & Rescue in immeasurable ways. It is impossible to count the number of lives that Chief MacKenzie has improved in his years of service to our village. We are sincerely grateful for his service,” Hand said.
The Point Edward Fire Department provides emergency response to the residents and visitors of the Village of Point Edward and has served as a group of volunteers for many years.
Deputy Chief Rick MacGregor will be serving as the Acting Chief.
