UPDATE: Man facing assault charges following Sarnia standoff

Sarnia police have arrested a man after a standoff on Thursday afternoon.

The incident began at around 1 p.m., when police received a call concerning suspected intimate partner violence. Investigators say that when the woman and her child visiting the man at a home on Durand Street, an argument arose and the man allegedly kicked her.

After the man tried to pull the child away from the victim, she and the child were able to flee the house.

Police responded to the house and set up a perimeter after the man refused to come out. The Emergency Response Team, negotiators, and a K9 unit were dispatched.

At around 4 p.m., a warrant was obtained to allow forced entry into the house. Police entered and arrested the man.

He is charged with two counts of assault. The charges have not been proven in court.

The area surrounding Durand and Mitton Streets was closed to traffic during the incident. It has since reopened.

Woman reported missing

Police said 21-year-old Alesha Grant has been reported missing and there are concerns for her wellbeing.
