Freezing rain, ice pellets, snow expected Friday

Special weather statements and warnings have been issued for much of Southern Ontario heading into the weekend.

Environment Canada is forecasting mixed precipitation on Friday, from freezing rain in the southernmost part of the province to significant snow further north.

No matter what's falling from the sky, the weather agency advises that travel could be difficult, adding that motorists should be extra cautious on the roads or postpone travel while the statements are in effect.

Sarnia-Lambton could see five to 10 millimetres of freezing rain before temperatures rise above freezing and it switches over to rain. A freezing rain warning is posted for the region.

A freezing rain warning is also in effect for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. The national weather agency said those areas could see two to five millimetres of ice accretion.

Huron, Perth, and Southern Bruce and Grey Counties could see a mix of snow, freezing rain, and ice pellets, with five to 10 centimetres of snow accumulating in some areas.

Residents of Northern Bruce and Grey Counties can expect up to 10 centimetres of snowfall as a low-pressure system passes through the area.

The statements and warnings have been issued for Friday morning and are expected to last into the evening.
