Victim Services Sarnia Lambton has received a more than $75,000 Seed Grant from the provincial government's Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The funds were used to develop a self-sustaining student placement program to build agency capacity and increase skilled support staff entering their professions.
"I'm extremely pleased that Victim Services Sarnia Lambton is making this investment in developing its staff and future workforce," said Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey in a news release. "Victim Services Sarnia-Lambton is a very important agency in our community, providing critical support to individuals, often at the most vulnerable moments in their lives, and this investment will help them fulfill its mission both now and in the future."
The funds were used to employ a full-time student placement coordinator for the development of onboarding and training protocols, as well as to buy agency computers to ensure system access is secure.
“This funding has allowed us to add to our service delivery by using placement students to complement our service delivery in office, as they act as staff during the course of their placement. It has also helped to provide valuable training to prospective providers entering the field after graduation,” said Victim Services Sarnia-Lambton Executive Director Selena Joseph in a news release.
