The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) is warning that this weekend's forecast could result in hazardous watercourse conditions and potential flooding in low-lying areas.
The Conservation Authority notes that with rainfalls of 25 to 35 millimetres possible on Sunday and temperatures several degrees above freezing, most of the remaining snowpack could melt. ACBA says with saturated ground conditions, a rapid runoff is likely.
"Based on the current forecast and streamflow forecasting models, if we receive the higher rainfall totals, water levels in rivers will exceed bankfull conditions, and extend well into the traditional low-lying undeveloped flood plain areas. Flooding may affect local roads that are prone to periodic flooding," read the flood outlook statement from ACBA.
The Conservation Authority expects water levels to peak through the day Monday.
Residents are reminded to stay away from waterways.
The statement will remain in effect until Friday, January 2, 2026, unless local conditions warrant further updates.
ACBA says it will continue to monitor forecasts and watershed conditions through the week and provide updates as required.
