Charges have been laid against two people from the Greater Toronto Area in connection to a series of thefts in Sarnia and Chatham-Kent, but police believe there may be other incidents.
Police said two suspects allegedly cut a metal lock and stole items from a locker at a Finch Drive community center on January 29. The victim immediately reported the incident to police and later learned her stolen credit cards had been used at a Quinn Drive store.
Later that afternoon, police were called to a chain fitness facility on Exmouth Street about a possible theft in progress. Officers said staff had been alerted by another company location that two females, under investigation for theft in Chatham, had just checked into the Sarnia branch.
Both suspects were arrested.
During a search, officers seized a stolen purse, phone, and other stolen property tied to the Finch Drive theft.
Chatham-Kent Police confirmed the accused were responsible for a similar incident on January 8.
A 32-year-old woman from Scarborough and a 15-year-old from North York were both charged with three counts of theft, fraud under $5,000, possession of stolen property, and personation with intent.
Police said there had also been multiple outstanding warrants with the Waterloo Regional Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service, and York Regional Police Service.
The investigation is ongoing as police believe the two are allegedly responsible for multiple organized thefts across Ontario.
Sarnia police have released a video of the accused and are asking anyone with information to contact police at 519-344-8861.
