Final blow out sale planned Saturday for Rotary Used Book Sale

An extra day has been added to the Sarnia Bluewaterland Rotary Used Book Sale.

Coordinator Dale Wilcox said they'll be hosting a blow out sale this Saturday at Degroot's Nurseries from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Saturday, the $10 book sale is on," Wilcox said. "Bring a bag, fill it with books, and it's $10."

Wilcox said over 500 people donated books this year.

"We have 67 tables of books, more than we have ever had," she said. "Yes, the last two weekends have been good for sales, but we still have so many good books, and one of our goals is to get books out to the community for reading at a reasonable price."

Wilcox said they've made about $47,000 so far this year.

"We are quite, quite pleased and we'll see how much higher than that we go, with the last of our numbers coming in," she said.

Wilcox said leftover books will be recycled back into the community and beyond.

"This year we have at least three new initiatives. The first being the largest. We have been told that we can send any number of books, so we've put aside 10 boxes that we expect to fill with the softcover books, to [send to] Latvia to our [Canadian] troops," she said.

Remaining books will also go to numerous groups and organizations, including; Lambton Literacy's little libraries, retirement and seniors residences, Sarnia Jail, Lambton College and Bluewater Health.

In a final step, second hand stores will be contacted.

"I will be checking with each of their managers this week, to see what quantity they can actually handle on site, so that we don't give them more than they can handle," Wilcox said. "They also are aware that we have already presorted. These books are all in good condition, ready for them to put on their shelf."

She said the quality and quantity of books received this year has been incredible and she would really like to see people who are interested in reading come to the last sale.
