Village OPP board elects new chair, vice chair

The Point Edward OPP Detachment Board has new leadership at the helm.

It has appointed Deputy Mayor Greg Grimes as chair and village resident Doug Booth as vice chair.

Grimes takes over for Carolyn Leaver-Luciani, who he said has served the board with dedication and professionalism.

He said he's proud to be elected as chair and grateful for the confidence of his fellow board members.

“Under the Community Safety and Policing Act, Detachment Boards play an essential role in supporting effective, accountable, and community-focused policing. I look forward to continuing this work on behalf of Point Edward residents," said Grimes.

Grimes has been Point Edward’s deputy mayor since 2018, and said he brings a strong understanding of municipal governance, community priorities, and public accountability to the board.

Grimes also has extensive experience in policing and emergency response.

He previously served for ten years as a Victim Services Counsellor and for nine years as an Auxiliary Constable with the Waterloo Regional Police Service.

Grimes is also a Search and Rescue volunteer, Unit Leader, and District Director with the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.

“As chair, I am committed to working collaboratively with my fellow board members, Inspector Ross Stuart, Lambton County Detachment Commander, and our OPP partners to strengthen public safety, accountability, and community trust,” Grimes added.

The Point Edward OPP Detachment Board provides governance and oversight of local policing in accordance with provincial legislation, supporting safe and resilient communities.
