City council has agreed to extend the ground sublease with Scottsdale Aviation Limited for hangars four and eight at Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport.

Council unanimously agreed to refer recommendations back to the UNDRIP (United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) Working Group to return with an implementation strategy for each item, which would include details -- such as cost.

City/County Councillor Bill Dennis said while he supported some of the recommendations, he was concerned about the potential financial impact of some items.

Councillor Adam Kilner called the document part of an ongoing conversation.

"This gives us an incredible opportunity to do the same partnering that we do in other avenues," Kilner said. "To me, this seems like a very natural progression in the consultation and in the story between Sarnia and Aamjiwnaang, and Walpole, and Kettle and Stony Point."

It's unknown when an implementation strategy will return to council for final approval.
