Significant Weather Event declaration ended

The significant weather event declaration issued by Lambton County on Saturday has ended.

In a news release Tuesday morning, the county said, in accordance with the Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards, it has ended the significant weather event for the region.

"We would like to sincerely thank the road crews who worked diligently to maintain and clear the County Road Network," read the news release. "Road conditions have improved considerably since the significant weather event was declared.

The end of the declaration applies to all county roads.

Warwick Township and Plympton-Wyoming also issued significant weather declarations on Saturday, February 7.

Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Gary Atkinson penned a letter to the community Tuesday, thanking everyone for their help during the storm and snow clearing operations.

"I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to YOU—the residents of Plympton-Wyoming—for your support and consideration, said Atkinson in the letter. "Once the significant weather event was declared, your assistance by staying off the roads was very helpful.

He went on to thank emergency responders including the St. Clair and Petrolia fire departments for their help, as well as other neighbouring municipalities.

"To Mayor Al Broad and the Public Works Department of Dawn-Euphemia, we appreciate your offer of assistance to your neighbours and friends in the north. That is what neighbours do! To the members of our Public Works Department, our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to you for being out there and for working those long hours in zero visibility to get the roads cleared and open for our community."

The storm Friday stranded hundreds of motorists on area roads and highways including the 402.

There were no serious reports of any injuries from Lambton OPP.

Motorists are being reminded to continue to drive according to the weather and road conditions.
