Winter trail photos wanted for BTC contest

The Bluewater Trails Committee (BTC) is asking for help to highlight different trails around Sarnia-Lambton, in hopes of increasing public use.

The group is gathering submissions for its ‘Seasons of Sarnia' photo contest, for the chance to win a cash prize.

Winter photos are being accepted until March 20, and residents will then have a couple of weeks to cast a vote for their favourite.

Spokesman Roel Bus said there are a few different categories.

"On the website we have different categories, just different ideas to use for your photos," said Bus. "There's activities on the trail like running, cycling, bird watching. Bird watching can also be part of 'nature' which is the second category. Birds, animals, plants, trees and insects. Those might be more for the summer months. We also want to see the scenic views on the trails, landscapes, maybe some water and beaches."

Bus said while the Howard Watson Nature Trail is very popular, there are many other hidden gems around town.

He said it's a perfect weekend to go out for Valentine's Day and Family Day, noting temperatures should be a bit more mild than in recent weeks.

"There's the Blackwell Trail, Wawanosh Trail and Suncor Park Trail off of Modeland Road," he said. "There's also numerous ones throughout the city and, obviously, Canatara Park features some as well."

First prize will receive $250, second place gets $150, and third place takes home $100.

There's also a People’s Choice winner each season, which will receive $300.

For more information, and to make a submission or vote, visit the Bluewater Trails Committee's website.

The spring photo contest will open around March 21.
