French school board fires teacher charged in sexual assault investigation

A Sarnia teacher accused of sexual offences is no longer employed by the Conseil scolaire catholique Providence.

The school board said his employment with the board was officially terminated as of Wednesday, February 25.

Director of Education Carolyn Bastien said she understands the news about Kevin Partington has been deeply upsetting and troubling for families, students and staff at École secondaire catholique Saint Francois Xavier.

"Any situation involving allegations of harm within a school community is devastating, and I recognize the fear, anger, confusion, and sense of betrayal that many are feeling. As director of education, I share in that concern and sorrow," she said in a letter to parents and guardians. "I would like to thank and commend Principal Madame Fraser for her immediate action upon learning of an incident involving Mr. Partington. Mme. Fraser acted diligently and without hesitation, in accordance with board procedures."

Kevin Partington, 33, was arrested on February 20 after Sarnia police executed a search warrant at an Errol Road home.

He was charged with four counts each of sexual assault and sexual exploitation, as well as making child pornography and break and enter with intent. At the time of his arrest, the school board said Partington was on administrative leave.

"We continue to encourage anyone who may have firsthand knowledge or information related to this situation to share it directly with the Sarnia Police Service," said Bastien in the letter.

"At the same time, I, along with the school’s Superintendent, M. Yves Mainville, are present at the school and available to listen and to address questions or concerns within the limits of what we are able to share. Our primary role is to fully support the principal and school staff as they, in turn, support students during this very difficult time. Additional supports remain in place to ensure a safe and supportive environment for our students and staff," she said.

Sarnia police said the investigation is ongoing, and believe there may be additional victims or witnesses who haven't come forward yet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
