A multi-year revitalization project is coming along at Rosedale Public School in Sarnia.
Construction activity at the Indian Road elementary school began in 2024.
Lambton Kent District School Board Associate Director of Corporate Services Brian McKay said, so far, several areas of the school have been completed, such as the east-west corridor at the north end of the school leading to the STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, and Math) Lab, the lab itself, classrooms along that corridor, and the learning commons.
"We were changing the office location, moving it right next to the front entrance for better sightlines and better access for anyone entering the school, that has been completed," he said. "We're now working on the corridor that runs north-south."
Work is also being done in the classrooms that run along the north-south corridor.
"We're being really intentional on this work as students are still in the school," he said. "So we're really focused on making sure construction can occur while students are there, which means we still need to keep some of the classrooms for student-use and we can't turn over the entire corridor at one time."
McKay said there's no estimate as to how long the project will take.
"We still have a ways to go on that, just based on the sheer volume of work at the school. It's basically a completely renovated school at the end of the process," he said. "But the job is coming along well and we're very pleased when we look at the finished classrooms."
He said they still have to plan out the work for the full-day Kindergarten rooms.
There are currently 458 students enrolled at the school
McKay said the project is still on budget, with a total cost of approximately $22 million to $23 million.
