A section of Highway 402 was closed Wednesday due to hazardous road conditions.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of unsafe road conditions on the westbound highway in Plympton-Wyoming.
As a result, Highway 402 westbound is closed between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road.
Motorists are being advised to exit at Oil Heritage Road and detour following London Line to Mandaumin Road to re-enter the highway.
In the meantime, motorists are asked to plan an alternative route and allow for extra travel time.
The closure comes as Sarnia-Lambton continues to battle an extended heat wave with daytime highs around 31 to 35 degrees Celsius, and humidex values in the low 40s.
According to Environment Canada, the temperature climbed to 34 C at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, with humidex values around 46.
Last year, the extreme heat resulted in closures along the highway due to evolving concrete issues.
OPP said the current road closure is expected to remain in place for an extended period while crews work to safely repair the road surface.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Lambton OPP would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this closure.
