It's sure to be an exciting and informative day for anyone who's passionate about the environment.
The Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability (BASES) will hold its inaugural Environmental Community Open House (ECOH), on Wednesday, October 28 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 on Front Street.
BASES Senior Communications Advisor Tracy Krull said the free event will feature representatives from about 20 different groups.
"We have a lot of our industrial members that will be talking about some projects that they have coming up, emission reductions, new technology, those types of things," said Krull. "We also have the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks talking about the regulations and how they're helping to keep the province safe, as well as local groups such as the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, Friends of the St. Clair River, talking about that work that they do to help promote new initiatives in the environment and take care of the local region."
Krull said Aamjiwnaang First Nation, the Lambton County Science Fair and the Citizen Science WATCH group from Wallaceburg will also be on hand.
"WATCH is going to be doing some water tasting where you can taste different samples between the municipal water and bottled water and vote on what you think. So I think there will definitely be some opportunities for a younger audience to get involved as well," she said.
Krull said visitors are welcome to drop in at any time throughout the afternoon and evening, and registration isn't required.
Complimentary sandwiches and light refreshments will be available, along with door prizes, including more than $700 in gift cards.
BASES is a not-for-profit organization that works with industry and community partners to continuously improve worker safety, emergency preparedness and environmental monitoring, and build trust between industry and the Sarnia-Lambton region.
