MLB The Toronto Blue Jays are a game back of the AL East lead after a 2-0 loss in New York last night, their fifth loss in their last six games. Toronto is off today before beginning a critical weekend series against the division leading Red Sox at Rogers Centre.

The Detroit Tigers dropped the finale in Chicago and sit a game back of Baltimore for the final wild card spot in the American League. The Tigers welcome the Oriloes to Comerica Park for a weekend series.

The New York Mets have signed Tim Tebow to a minor league contract.

NFL The regular season kicks off tonight with a rematch of Super Bowl 50. Denver beat Carolina in February to claim the Lombardi Trophy, but the rematch wont feature Peyton Manning, who retired during the offseason. Trevor Siemian will make his first NFL start for the Broncos tonight at QB.

Baseball Canada Canada surrendered just one hit in a 8-1 win over Venezuela at the Women's Baseball World Cup to improve their record to 2-0.

World Cup of Hockey Pre-tournament play for the World Cup of Hockey starts today around the world. Team North America, featuring players 23-and-under from Canada and the US, faces Team Europe tonight in Quebec City. Meanwhile, Finland hosts Sweden in Helsinki while the Czech Republic visits Russia in Moscow.

Tennis Semifinal day at the U-S Open. World Number 1 Serena Williams continues her bid for a seventh title at Flushing Meadows against Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic. In the other semi, Caroline Wozniacki faces second seed Angelique Kerber.

OHL The Sarnia Sting confirm forward Brandon Lindberg will play the upcoming season in the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League. The 19-year-old Kitchener native will suit up for the three time defending Sutherland Cup champion Caledonia Corvairs. (read MORE)

AHL The Carolina Hurricanes have signed goalie Michael Leighton to a one year, two way contract. The 35-year-old Petrolia native set the AHL record for career shutouts last season while with the Rockford Ice Hogs.

Lambton Jr Sting Major Midget tryouts continue Thursday ahead of a pair of weekend exhibition games, the Major Pewees play the Macomb Mavericks tonight, the Minor Atoms are in Chatham, and the Minor Midgets play their opener of the Toronto Titans tournament against Guelph.

LKSSAA There will be increased training needed for coaches of “high risk” sports in the Lambton Kent Secondary School Athletic Association. Beginning this year, hockey, track and field, football, and rugby teams will require at least one coach to be certified. (read MORE)

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
