Sting beat Saginaw on the road

Players for the Sarnia Sting may want to get goalie Nick Surzycia a late Christmas present.

They hosted the defending Memorial Cup Champion Saginaw Spirit on Saturday and ended up winning 4-3.

Surzycia made 37 saves in the game.

It was Saginaw who got an early lead as they scored two goals, the first from Ethan Hay and the second from Jacob Cloutier, just over six minutes into the first period.

The Sting would cut into the lead before the first intermission as Tyson Doucette found the back of the net for his 15th goal. Easton Wainwright and Beckham Edwards with the assists.

Liam Beamish scored his 6th of the year in the second period to tie the game. Getting the helpers were Ryan Brown and Zach Filak.

Under three minutes later, Mitch Young would give the Sting their first lead of the game. His 4th goal was assisted by Filak.

Cloutier would tie the game in the third period for Saginaw, however, Brown would give the Sting the lead back less than two minutes later. His 10th goal was assisted by Filak and Lukas Fischer.

With the win, Sarnia’s record moves to 12-18-2-5, while Saginaw drops to 16-17-1-0.

The Sting's next game is on Tuesday, December 31, on the road against the London Knights.
