Three goals from Mbuyi lead Attack to win over Sarnia

A strong third period helped the Owen Sound Attack beat the Sarnia Sting.

The Attack hosted the Sting Saturday night and ended up winning 5-4 in a shootout.

It was the Sting’s Matthew Manza who opened the scoring around halfway through the first period. Grabbing the assists on his second goal of the season were Easton Wainwright and Alessandro Di Iorio.

The Attack tied the game a few minutes later when Pierce Mbuyi found the back of the net on the power play. Landen Hookey and James Petrovski both got assists on the play.

Di Iorio would give the Sting the lead again before the end of the period. His seventh goal was assisted by James Barr and Manza.

The only goal in the second period came with one second left. Hughston Hurt got his third from Wainwright and Manza.

The third period started with three unanswered goals by Owen Sound.

Braedyn Rogers scored his fifth from Tristan Delisle and Hookey before Mbuyi scored two more for the hat-trick. Getting the only assist on Mbuyi’s first goal of the period was Alec Leonard with Petrovski and Delisle grabbed the helpers on the second.

The Sting would tie the game with just over a minute left thanks to a goal from Tyson Doucette. His 17th goal was assisted by Lukas Fischer and Di Iorio.

Neither team scored in overtime, meaning a shootout would decide who got the extra point.

Mbuyi shot first and scored. After three straight misses, Hookey had a chance to win it for the Attack and made no mistake.

With the win, Owen Sound's record improves to 14-26-2-3, while the Sting moves to 16-20-3-6.

Owen Sound’s next game is on Wednesday, January 29, at home against the Erie Otters.

The Sting's next game is on Friday, January 31, on the road against the Guelph Storm. You can catch the action live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM).
