Guelph and Kitchener named finalists for hosting 2027 Memorial Cup

The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) has announced that Guelph and Kitchener have been selected as the finalists to potentially host the 2027 Memorial Cup.

The CHL announced the decision in a media release on Thursday. Kitchener last hosted the tournament in 2008. It also hosted the event in 1975 and 1984, and was part of a joint hosting bid in 1962 with Guelph and Hamilton. Kitchener has won the Memorial Cup twice, in 2003 and 1982.

Meanwhile, Guelph has hosted the tournament once in 2002, but has yet to capture a title.

A final decision on which city will host the 2027 tournament will likely be announced in late November or early December, following official written submissions from both the teams.

This season's Memorial Cup will be hosted by the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from May 21 to 31. The Memorial Cup is an annual tournament that features the winners of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), WHL and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), as well as one host team.
