Arson Investigations Require More Resources

A recent increase in arsons has led Windsor police to pull resources from other areas to help investigate the cases.

Deputy Chief Vince Powers says the targeted arsons in south Windsor aren't believed to be linked to the ones in the Walkerville area.

He says arsons can be very difficult to solve. "They're complex because they take some time just to determine that it is an arson in the first place," says Powers. "Just the whole forensic scene, we have to wait for tests to be conducted and working with the fire marshal's office. There is some time lag and trying to identify the perpetrator of that offence is always a difficult thing."

Those found guilty of committing arson can spend up to 14 years in jail or up to life in prison if someone is killed.
