Windsor West MP Brian Masse has a list of issues left over from 2014 to tackle in the year ahead.
Masse says his personal highlights of the past year include getting petroleum coke off the U.S. banks of the Detroit River, but he's most proud of his office's casework. "Seeing people come in and getting their employment insurance or making sure they get their pension. Immigration casework where people get reunited, those are the things that at the end of the day, I'm really proud of."
As for what's on the agenda in 2015, Masse says he'll continue to fight for legislation preventing the proliferation of Asian Carp in the Great Lakes. Recently, the federal government gave the Canadian Border Services Agency greater powers to prevent its spread.
Masse's also looking forward to greater investment in the auto industry in the region. "Unfortunately the Ford situation did not come to fruition but there's been a rebound with some of the tool and die mould making and other types of manufacturing."
The new border crossing is another big project that's expected to take up much of Masse's time next year. He admits getting the necessary approvals and funding for the project continues to be a complicated process.
