As Amherstberg explores its policing options, Windsor's getting set to make a proposal to the town.
The city and the Windsor Police Services Board have agreed that it's a potential deal that could benefit both municipalities.
Chief Al Frederick says this could also be the first step in creating a regional police service. "There are a number of regional police services in Ontario. They were all formed many decades ago, but they all started out the same way, with the central municipality and they amalgamated to join regional police services," explains Frederick. "They're extremely effective and efficient models of policing."
Frederick says Amherstburg might find savings with Windsor police through the use of its specialty units and training facilities. Potential staffing changes, as well as finances will be worked out as the official proposal is drafted.
There's no time line on when Windsor may be making its presentation to the Town of Amherstburg.
