There are now two declared candidates hoping to win the nomination to for the New Democrats in Windsor-Tecumseh.
Former Tecumseh Deputy Mayor Cheryl Hardcastle announced her intentions to run Friday morning. She says her priorities are improving the local economy, creating more affordable housing and raising the level of discourse on Parliament Hill.
"When you talk about politics, it doesn't have to be limited to a debate and a competition where somebody wins, and somebody loses," she says. "I think we all lose when we approach it that way."
After losing her mayoral bid in November's municipal election, Hardcastle realized she wasn't finished with politics. So far, she only faces one opponent for the nomination, veteran and activist Bruce Moncur.
The NDP riding association in Windsor-Tecumseh still has to set a date for the nomination meeting.
Currently, the seat in Windsor-Tecumseh is held by New Democrat Joe Comartin, who plans to retire later this year.
