LaSalle Iffy On Regional Policing

LaSalle's mayor isn't closing the door completely on the idea of regional policing, but he doesn't like the discussion so far.

"If there's an economy of scale that's beneficial to the Town of LaSalle, we'd be crazy not to look at it," says Ken Antaya. "But, I suspect that when the dust settles on this thing, that the Town of LaSalle is going to walk away."

Amherstburg's mayor says his town is reviewing its policing options, and the City of Windsor is currently writing up a proposal. But, for the arrangement to work, they need to get LaSalle on board.

Ken Antaya says he'd be more interested in a proposal that encompasses the entire county. "If we're going to talk about this, let's not just start talking about two municipalities that are separated trying to provide services," he says. "We could say Windsor's trying to get some business here and Amherstburg is trying to save some money. There could be ulterior motives here."

Antaya says residents are already speaking out about the proposal. "The response that I'm getting from our community is, 'don't you dare.'"
