Amherstburg Council Learning From Mistake

Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo doesn't want to hear from Ontario's Ombudsman for a while.

It was recently discovered that an in-camera session during the new council's first regular meeting on December 10 should have been public.

DiCarlo says the regular clerk was away at the time, and the deputy clerk wasn't as knowledgeable in regards to in-camera processes. "We've done some restructuring, to that effect, to make sure that our new deputy clerk is in all of our in-camera meetings and becomes as knowledgeable and aware as the clerk, should that ever happen again."

DiCarlo says he's read some of the Ombudsman reports given to previous Amherstburg councils when they violated the Municipal Act, and this one was not nearly as bad. He believes this situation's made council more knowledgeable and the group is moving on.
