Windsor Police Constable Kent Rice has been demoted for 18 months after being caught on video kicking a man in a stairwell.
He'll serve as a second-class constable during the demotion which will also end up costing him around $14,000 in pay.
Windsor Police Chief Al Frederick says he's satisfied with the process and says Rice will be retrained.
"He had a long history of exemplary service and I fully expect that from him going forward," says Frederick.
Frederick says there's no specific timeline for Rice's return to normal community patrols as a second-class constable. He says that's up to the training branch to determine following classroom instruction and "supervisory monitoring."
Today's sentence followed a joint submission by lawyers from either side. Last week Rice plead guilty to two misconduct charges under the Police Services Act.
Rice will not have a criminal record as he previously received a conditional discharge after being found guilty of assault.
The stairwell incident happened in a McDougall Ave. apartment building, in Windsor, in February 2012.
