Tax Freeze Going To Be Tough

Windsor's tabled its draft budget for 2016, with a tax increase of 1.75%.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says a road levy, which he wants taken out, accounts for 0.5% of that.

But even then, he admits it's not going to be easy to freeze taxes for an eighth straight year.

"Council will really have to think hard about the priority add-backs that are being requested by administration," says Dilkens. "If they go for the full monty of $1.5-million, I think it will be close to impossible to keep it at 0%."

Dilkens says $3.3-million needs to be shaved from the budget in order to hit zero.

A wage increase of $8-million is the biggest item in next year's budget -- $2-million of that goes to the Windsor Police Service.
