Windsor Sending Historic Plane Parts To England

Parts of Windsor's Lancaster Bomber will soon be on the way to England.

Stabilizers from the Canadian plane are being shipped to aid the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Project team keep their Bomber airborne.

"The BAE which is like our Transport Canada has deemed the stabilizers to be lifted-out out at a certain hour and are getting close to that time. So there's probably another two or three flying seasons for the Lancaster in England," says President of the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association John Robinson.

He says once those stabilizers are lifted-out out they will be switched with the ones Windsor is sending and the others will be sent here. Robinson says the stabilizers coming off the Lancaster in England will be in better condition then the ones they currently have.

"What they would like to do is have a set ready, restored, prepped, so that when their airplane comes down into major maintenance they can do a quick swap," says Robinson.

Windsor will receive the stabilizers currently on the British Bomber some time in 2018. The shipping of the parts is being paid for completely by the British project.

The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association is currently restoring the Windsor Bomber. They say it could take another ten to 15 years to complete.
