Halfway through the year, the City of Windsor is projecting a modest surplus to the 2016 budget.
"Things are progressing well. It's early in the year so we still need to monitor as things progress throughout the rest of year," says Joe Mancina, Chief Financial Officer.
City administration is estimating a $117,384 surplus after taking into account the $1.5 million built into the budget.
"We build that contingency within our budget each year to plan for the unexpected items that may come up from time to time whether it be winter control or items that we can't control. It ensures that we're prepared and plan well for those types of events," says Mancina.
The department facing the largest deficit is legal with a $1.1 M deficit . The largest surpluses are seen in Corporate Financial Accounts and Public Works.
