The John Freeman Walls Historic Site and Underground Railroad Museum in Lakeshore is hosting what is being called a 'Unity Day' event this Friday.
Museum Founder and Curator Bryan Walls says the day is meant to be a counter to the hatred seen in violence in the US, Europe and elsewhere.
"We want to radiate a message around the world that, humbly: peace, harmony, reconciliation and leaving bitterness behind can work," says Walls.
He feels getting out a message of mutual respect and unity is needed right now.
"We're not trying to get political, but at the same time we can't just stand by; you know people of good will, people who feel that love has to win over hate — you have to step up to the plate," says Walls.
Essex County Warden and Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain is to be recognized with a humanitarian award at the event.
The event includes complimentary museum tours from 10am to 3pm while Unity Day festivities are set to run until 6pm. The museum is located at 859 Puce Rd. in Lakeshore.
