St. Georges Church and Hall in Walkerville will be demolished.
Last month, council voted to change the zoning for the property from institutional to residential to accommodate three homes on the property.
Monday night was merely a formality to approve the demolition but Elaine Weeks was still hoping she could change some councillors minds.
"Once that church is gone, Walkerville will not be the same and I really think that when you look at Walkerville you understand how important it is to the city of Windsor. People move to Walkerville because of the heritage, it just doesn't make sense to tear down a piece of heritage," says Weeks.
Since going to council one person came forward with a proposal to save the building and use it for a music school.
"It is appealing and usable, while there is plenty of inexpensive real estate in Windsor available to builders structures such as St. George's that are this suited to re-purpose are rare," says Melanie Paul Tanovich.
The offer was declined by the diocese because they say it was for only about 10% of what the property would be worth.
The demolition permit was granted to the property owners who say they have fifteen parties interested in the property once the church and hall are demolished.
"Their possible purchase of the property is solely subject to the permission to demolition. There is no interest from any of the parties unless that is in place," says Dave Woodall, representing Woodall Construction and the diocese.
Neighbours directly across from the church also support the demolition.
