The Windsor University Faculty Association will begin negotiations with the University of Windsor this month.
WUFA president Jeff Noonan says they are optimistic heading into this round of talks.
"From our perspective we think we are bringing a responsible package to the table that is looking for some modest increases in compensation that respects the faculty and takes into account some of our issues around workload," says Noonan.
During the last round of negotiations members went on strike for one full day and another half day. Negotiations began in May 2014 and a contract was not ratified until October.
The current contract expires June 30, 2017. The union has approximately 800 members including tenured professors, part-time professors, librarians, and coaches.
"The key to negotiations really is momentum, when you're solving problems and you have the trust of the other side and they trust you. If it takes a little longer past the deadline it takes a little longer. But we don't know how they'll go until we start," says Noonan.
