LaSalle RIDE Program Clean

Police in LaSalle report checkpoints without a drunk driving infraction.

The RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program was set up at two locations in the town of LaSalle, according to police Sgt. Duncan Davies. About 370 drivers were interviewed from Friday evening into Saturday morning to determine if they were driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Police say one driver was issued a roadside sobriety test, but passed. No drunk-driving arrests or roadside licence suspensions were issued.

Police did issue an assortment of cautions for document infractions and malfunctioning equipment, but no violations of traffic safety laws were recorded.

With the Labour Day weekend well underway, and college and university students returning to the area to begin fall classes next week, local police services and the Ontario Provincial Police will set up RIDE program checkpoints across Windsor-Essex. Police urge drivers to designate a driver or use public transportation if they want to drink.
