Windsor Police Chief Retiring

Windsor Police Chief Al Frederick has announced he will be retiring as of January 30, 2018.

The announcement was made at the Windsor Police Service Board Meeting on Thursday.

Frederick says it has been an honour to serve the Windsor community and work with the men and women at the Windsor Police Service.

"It's been inspiring, each and every day coming to work, working with these people, doing some great work in the community together. I have no regrets, for sure," says Frederick.

Frederick has been Windsor's police chief for the last five years. He has been a part of the service for 33 years.

He says his biggest challenge as chief has been reacting to outside mandates and legislation.

"I see the right things being done here locally and the great work that our people and then it's being minimized and disparaged by legislation. Legalization of marijuana I think is going to hurt our communities," says Frederick.

He says in the last year, they have had to put in place to protocols for street checks and sexual assault reporting because of other jurisdictions, while Windsor police already had good protocols in place that were working.
