Transit Windsor is giving passengers plenty of notice service will be affected by renovations at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.
It is shutting down its tunnel bus service during the ten days the Windsor Detroit Tunnel will be undergoing repairs on its ceiling.
Transit Windsor says it had hoped to the use the Ambassador Bridge instead, but discovered the processing area on the U.S. side of the bridge would not be adequate.
Unfortunately, that means regular tunnel bus service between October 20 at 8pm until the tunnel reopens on October 30 at 5:30am.
Between October 30 and November 22, the tunnel will close nightly at 8pm and reopen again at 5:30am Sunday to Thursday. That means the last bus trip through the tunnel on those nights will be at 7pm.
Between November 23 and 26, the tunnel will reopen to traffic and the tunnel bus and the special event bus will run on its normal schedule.
From November 27 to December 23, the tunnel will again have night closures starting at 8pm to 5:30pm.
December 23 to January 1, the tunnel will be open, and there will be normal service through the tunnel.
Finally, on January 2 to mid-June 2018, the tunnel will again shut down at 8pm until 5:30am Thursday to Sunday.
During night closures, the tunnel bus will take passengers to special events and will return to Windsor at the Ambassador Bridge where the Canadian Customs plaza will provide processing. Special event transit service will be available for 30 minutes after games and concerts, so passengers are strongly advised to return to the dedicated pickup spot immediately following events.
