A Windsor roofing company faces a significant fine after a worker fell from the roof of a house and died.
The worker fell on December 11, 2015, when a lanyard became undetached from a safety line. He never regained consciousness and died six months later in the hospital.
Dayus Roofing pleaded guilty last July to failing to ensure measures were taken to protect workers from falling and was fined $90,000.
A provincial offences court in Windsor also imposed a 25% victim surcharge which will go into a special provincial government fund to help the victims of crime.
An investigation found that the workers were replacing shingles at a home on Menard St.
All the roofers were supplied with and wore fall protection equipment.
The young worker was walking across the roof to throw old shingles into a dumpster below. It is believed the worker detached his lanyard from the safety line, lost his footing and fell to the ground.
