Dozens rappel for Make-A-Wish children

Several people have taken the plunge up to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Two dozen brave souls rappelled down the 15 storey CIBC building in downtown Windsor on Friday to raise money for kids in need. The 'Rope For Hope' event aims to raise $50,000.

Tanya Jazic of the Southwest Ontario Scotiabankers was one of the rappellers and said her team raised $18,000. Jazic said the key is not looking down.

"As somebody who is terrified of heights, I was shaking and the camera couldn't capture how bad my heart was beating," she said.

Jazic said it's one for the bucket list but won't do it again.

"I couldn't back out and I just couldn't look down. As soon as I got my rhythm it was better but, let me tell you, that first step of walking backwards toward the ledge, shaking," said Jazic.

Joanne Laforet is married to Windsor Fire Chief Stephen Laforet. It was her first rappel and she said it was a scary, windy thrill.

"Not going to lie, it's a little bit scary. The wind is a little crazy up there but it was a lot of fun," said Laforet.

The event encourages individuals or teams to raise a minimum of $1,500 to help wishes come true. To learn more about Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario and how you can start granting wishes today, please visit www.makeawishswo.ca.
