Take Back The Night rally and march Friday

Everyone is encouraged to come out to Windsor's annual Take Back The Night rally at Charles Clark Square.

The rally gets underway at 7 p.m. Friday in solidarity with all genders to ensure the right to walk safely in the community.  In the past, the event was for women only.

Take Back The Night events have their origin in the 1970s. A march in Philadelphia is believed to be one of the earliest in 1975 after the stabbing death of Susan Alexander Speeth. She was killed while walking home from work.

Over the years, the event has been used to highlight many issues faced by women, including domestic violence, workplace harassment, slut-shaming, and the question of consent. In 1978, a rally in San Francisco protested pornography.
