Bernier, third party leader, visits Windsor

Candidates running for the People's Party of Canada will get a boost on the campaign trail Monday when party leader Maxime Bernier comes to Windsor.

Bernier will meet with local industry leaders. He will learn more about the regional economy and discuss policies that can build and sustain manufacturing. The event is not open to local media.

Local media is invited to accompany Bernier for a tour of Proto Manufacturing on Solar Crescent in Oldcastle. The company makes "cutting-edge, non-destructive testing equipment used by companies around the world."

Later in the afternoon, he will be at a barbeque for party supporters.

The public is invited to a public rally at the Ciociaro Club. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the rally is expected to start at 8 p.m.

The party has three candidates running in Windsor-Essex.

Bill Capes is running in the riding of Essex against incumbent NDP candidate Tracey Ramsey, Liberal candidate Audrey Festeryga, and Chris Lewis of the Conservative Party.

In Windsor-Tecumseh, Dan Burr is running for the People's Party of Canada. He faces incumbent Cheryl Hardcastle of the NDP, Leo DeMarce of the Conservatives, Giovanni Abati who is running for the Green Party, and Irek Kusmiercyzk of the Liberals.

Darryl Burrell, in Windsor West, is campaigning to take the seat from long-time incumbent Brian Masse who is running under the NDP banner. Sandra Pupatello is returning to politics to run for the Liberals. Henry Lau campaigns on behalf of the Conservatives and Quinn Hunt is running for the Green Party.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
