A hearing on the location of the new acute care hospital in Windsor-Essex is set to start next week, but in a twist, it will not hear from witnesses.
It is a blow for the group that filed the appeal, Citizens for an Accountable Mega Hospital Planning Process which has recruited world-renowned city planner Jennifer Keesmaat to its cause. The group also hoped the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal would hear testimony from Toronto lawyer, Eric Gillespie who specializes in municipal and environmental law.
CAMPP objects to the proposed site of the acute care hospital in County Road 42, saying it will lead to the hollowing out of downtown Windsor and deny thousands of residents access to healthcare. It argues Windsor City Council approved the rezoning of the land based on out of date information.
The tribunal said it would make its ruling based on the record and exhibits provided by both Windsor Regional Hospital and CAMPP.
The hearing starts October 8 at 10 a.m. in Windsor City Council Chambers.
