Amherstburg's mayor says he is very pleased with the service provided by the Windsor Police Service over the last year.
One year ago, the WPS took over policing in the town that has been named one of the safest in Canada.
"It went very smooth. The feedback has been really good from almost all of the residents. There has been a noticeable increase in service levels. I just can't say enough good about it," said Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo.
DiCarlo is now vice-chair of the Windsor Police Service Board and has been given an in-depth look at how the operation works.
"We have access to a lot of services that we never did before. Obviously Windsor Police is a much bigger operation with a lot more to offer," said DiCarlo.
The town realized a half a million dollars in savings by switching over to the Windsor Police Service. Councillors decided to place $100,000 of that into reserves and the rest went to decreasing the overall tax levy.
