Windsor police have charged three men in an incident in which a man was allegedly held for ransom.
The Amherstburg detachment received a call around 11 p.m. Friday to report that a relative was being held against his will. The complainant told police that they were given instructions on how to deliver money to have the victim released. Sergeant Steve Betteridge said it was believed that the incident took place in the city of Windsor.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Division then found out that three people were involved, and that the incident was spurred by one of them trying to recover a debt from the victim.
On Saturday morning, the complainant received a call, telling them to visit one of the alleged kidnappers on Ottawa Street near Windemere Road. Officers went to the scene, safely recovered the male victim, and arrested a suspect. A second suspect was arrested soon after a block away. A handgun, methamphetamine, and cocaine were seized.
A third and final suspect was arrested around 9 p.m. Saturday on Dot Avenue near Millen Street.
Corey Peterson, 34, Matthew Imeson, 37, and Paulo Reis, 36, are all charged with forcible confinement, kidnap for ransom, extortion, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. Peterson is also accused of firearm-related crimes.
These charges have not been proven in court. The investigation is ongoing.
