Federal grant helps to create 42 local jobs

Three local manufacturing companies are receiving grants to expand and create jobs.

FedDev Ontario is contributing $7 million to Laval Tool & Mould, Precision Stamping Group and SPM Automation helping to create around 42 jobs.

"That's exactly why we're investing this money to make sure that they can expand their facilities, and they can buy the right equipment and offer the jobs," said Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development.

While there is no stipulation in the agreement that the equipment purchased needs to stay in Canada, Joly said she is confident in the investments because these are Canadian companies committed to the region.

"We're supporting Canadian businesses, Canadian owned and businesses that have been created here," said Joly. "These people are committed, their families are here, their workers are here."

Jonathan Azzopardi from Laval Tool & Mould said this investment is allowing them to diversify and enter new global markets.

"We've already received our first [purchase order] from Korea which is not a traditional company that does business with Canada and we're on the verge of getting contracts with France that a year ago we didn't do business with," said Azzopardi.

Joly says these 40 jobs are part of 1,000 jobs FedDev Ontario will be announcing throughout Southwestern Ontario.
