The OPP would like it if you slowed down

On the first day of Canada Road Safety Week, Ontario Provincial Police charged two drivers in Essex County for allegedly driving at least twice the speed limit.

A 68-year-old man from Windsor and a second from Kingsville will have to walk for at least seven days after officers suspended their license and impounded their vehicles. Both were stopped on North Talbot Road.

Police caught the first driver around 8 a.m. Tuesday after they spotted a vehicle going 120 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A 23-year-old Kingsville man faces street racing charges.

Four hours later, officers charged a Windsor man with the same thing after clocking a second vehicle going 70 km/h over the speed limit. In that case, the accused is a 68-year-old man from Windsor.

The charges have not been proven in court, and both men will have their day in court in August.

The OPP will be watching the roads this week for drivers committing the "Big 4" sins of driving. Those are driving impaired, not using a seatbelt, aggressive driving, and driving distracted.
