Exposure alerts shouldn't reflect poorly on businesses

After issuing COVID-19 exposure alerts for six different establishments in the last three days, the medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex is once again asking residents to stay home when they are feeling unwell.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit will now be listing all exposure alerts on its webpage. The listing will include the name of the establishment as well as the dates when the exposure could have occurred.

"These notifications do not mean that the businesses were not following public health measures and recommendations. In fact, low-risk exposures are likely because public health practices were in place, therefore limiting the risk," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

Dr. Ahmed is urging people to stay home when they are unwell and limit the number of close contacts.

"There is a low level of transmission that is happening in the community which is a good sign. But it can easily change if people are not following those recommendations and instructions that have been provided to them for quite some time now," said Dr. Ahmed.

The health unit reported four new cases of the virus in the community as of Monday morning. Two are close contacts of a confirmed case and two are still under investigation.
