Over $5.5M more to support social services in Windsor

The City of Windsor will receive another $5,548,600 in relief funding to support homeless shelters.

The funding from the provincial government can be used to improve the delivery of services, protect staff and residents in homeless shelters, renovate shelters, create long-term housing solutions, and prepare for future outbreaks.

"Ensuring Windsorites have a safe and secure roof over their heads is one of our government's goals," said Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholls. "This funding, targeted towards vulnerable citizens, will help keep them safe during these uncertain COVID-19 times. Right now, having a safe place to call home is of great importance."

So far, the city has received $13.7 million to support social services during the pandemic. It's part of the Ontario government's $510 million investment through the Social Services Relief Fund to protect vulnerable populations.
