Jones now sitting on Leamington Council

There is officially a new face on Leamington's municipal council.

Trevor Jones was named by councillors on Tuesday night to fill the seat vacated by the death of Councillor John Jacobs.

Jones was sworn in on Wednesday afternoon.

Rather than hold a by-election to fill the seat, Jones was appointed based on his showing in the 2018 municipal election, having received the most votes out of all candidates who were not elected.

Mayor Hilda MacDonald said Jones will fit in well on the council with his background in the municipality.

"I am pleased to have a long-standing resident like Trevor, who is eager and involved in the community, join council," said MacDonald. "We look forward to working with Trevor in the future and wish him every success in his new role."

Jacobs, who had first been elected to council in 2010, passed away suddenly on November 9. Jones will complete Jacobs' term, which expires with the 2022 municipal election.
