The company planning a major development at the former Grace Hospital site hopes for a good turnout at a public online town hall Tuesday night.
Fairmount Properties, a company from Ohio, is planning a $100-million mixed-use development called Global Village Windsor with residential units, restaurants, retail, green space, and maybe even an urgent care facility.
"We have earmarked 20- to 60,000 square feet on the site," said Canadian Liaison for the project Scott DeGraw.
Grace Hospital closed in 2004. It was demolished nine years later. Since then, several plans have been presented, but none have come to fruition.
"We all know that for the past probably 20 years, maybe longer, we've been let down by the site of what it was supposed to be, what it could have been, and nothing has happened," DeGraw said.
Tuesday's meeting will be the fifth town hall held by the company since Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens announced the project in July. DeGraw said the company has spoken with city officials, along with different agencies across the city, and officials from both the University of Windsor and St. Clair College.
"We have components in there to support residential, to support the international students that are having problems finding housing in close proximity to the campuses that they attend."
The development will also have units for seniors and families.
DeGraw also hinted the project may not be the last for Fairmount Properties in Windsor.
"We have other plans for the city," he said.
